Mitchell Starc Addresses Criticism Over IPL 2026 Delay
Starc Responds to Criticism Regarding Injury
Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has firmly addressed the backlash he received following his delayed arrival for the IPL 2026 season. He stated that certain critics have shared 'heavily misinformed' views regarding his injury status.
Starc has yet to join the Delhi Capitals (DC) squad as the IPL 2026 season kicks off today, leading to frustration among cricket analysts and fans.
DC's head coach, Hemang Badani, previously mentioned that they are waiting for clearance from Cricket Australia regarding Starc's participation. He emphasized that Starc's fitness and workload are under close observation, and updates will follow once they receive the necessary clearance.
In a recent Instagram post, Starc clarified that he is in recovery from shoulder and elbow injuries, revealing that he only learned the full extent of his condition after the Australian summer. He criticized the media for spreading misinformation about his fitness and IPL involvement.
"Despite the opinions of certain individuals in the Indian media, I am currently rehabilitating an injury that I was unaware of during the Australian summer. These individuals have made strong claims about my IPL participation, presenting their opinions as facts and claiming to understand my body better than I do," he stated in his Instagram story.
Starc expressed regret to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters for missing the initial matches of the season but reassured them of his dedication to rejoin the team as soon as he is fit. He has maintained regular communication with the franchise.
"I acknowledge that this injury setback is disruptive for the Delhi team, and I apologize for not being available at the start of the season. I remain committed to joining DC and will keep the team updated on my recovery progress," Starc added.
Last season, Starc was the second-highest wicket-taker for DC, claiming 14 wickets in 11 matches. The Delhi Capitals are set to begin their campaign against LSG on April 1 in Lucknow.
