Mitchell Marsh's Explosive Knock Leads Lucknow Super Giants to Victory Over Chennai Super Kings
Lucknow Super Giants Triumph in IPL 2026 Match
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 15: In a thrilling encounter at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Mitchell Marsh's stunning 90 runs off just 38 balls propelled the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to a seven-wicket victory against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their IPL 2026 clash.
Marsh's explosive innings, complemented by Nicholas Pooran's quickfire 32 runs off 17 balls and Josh Inglis' steady 36 runs from 32 deliveries, enabled LSG to chase down a target of 188 with 20 balls to spare.
The match began with a remarkable opening partnership between Marsh and Inglis, with Marsh showcasing his aggressive batting style by reaching his fifty in a mere 21 balls. His most impressive display came in the fifth over, where he hit CSK's Anshul Kamboj for four consecutive sixes and a four, amassing 28 runs in that over alone. By the end of the fifth over, LSG had raced to 67 runs without losing a wicket.
After the power play, LSG had surged to 86 runs without loss, effectively taking control of the chase. Marsh continued his onslaught, and by the tenth over, LSG stood at 124 runs without losing a wicket.
While Marsh dominated the scoring, Inglis played a crucial supporting role. The duo put together a formidable 135-run opening partnership before Inglis was dismissed by Mukesh Choudhary, scoring 36 runs off 32 balls. The first wicket fell on the fifth ball of the 12th over.
In a twist of fate, Marsh was dismissed on the very next ball when Pooran's drive deflected off Choudhary's fingers and hit the stumps at the non-striker's end, catching Marsh out of his crease. He finished with an impressive 90 runs, including seven sixes and nine fours, leaving LSG at 136 for 2 after 12 overs.
CSK briefly found hope when Spencer Johnson dismissed Abdul Samad for 7 runs, but Pooran and Mukul Choudhary steadied the innings. With just 24 runs needed from the final four overs, Pooran unleashed a flurry of four consecutive sixes off Kamboj, leading LSG to victory in 16.4 overs.
For CSK, Mukesh Choudhary (1/24 in 3 overs) and Spencer Johnson (1/39 in 4 overs) were the only bowlers to claim wickets.
This defeat leaves CSK in sixth place on the IPL 2026 points table, with 12 points from 12 matches, comprising six wins and six losses.
Earlier in the match, CSK's openers, Sanju Samson and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, started steadily, reaching 20 runs without loss in the first two overs. However, the momentum shifted when LSG pacer Akash Singh dismissed Gaikwad for 13 runs in the fourth over. Akash continued to make an impact, taking Samson's wicket for 20 runs in the sixth over, leaving CSK at 37 for 2.
Wickets continued to fall as Akash claimed his third wicket, sending Urvil Patel back for just six runs in the eighth over, putting CSK under pressure at 61 for 3.
By the end of the tenth over, CSK had managed only 71 runs for the loss of three wickets, struggling to build on their initial start.
After the early setbacks, Kartik Sharma and Dewald Brevis steadied the innings, taking CSK to 108 for 3 in 13 overs. Kartik reached his half-century off 35 balls, marking his second fifty of the season. However, Mohammed Shami struck back, dismissing Brevis for 25 runs in the same over.
On the final ball of the 16th over, Shahbaz Ahmed took a crucial wicket, dismissing Kartik Sharma after a well-played 71 runs, as CSK reached 142 for 5.
