Mayank Yadav's Journey to Fast Bowling Stardom

New Delhi, March 23: The upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 will see the return of Mayank Yadav, the impressive fast bowler from Lucknow Super Giants, who captured attention two seasons ago.

Yadav shared his passion for fast bowling, which ignited during his childhood. He was inspired by legendary South African bowlers Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn, with his father encouraging him by showing videos of these greats.

“As a child playing in the streets, I had no knowledge of spin bowling, so I focused solely on fast bowling. My enthusiasm for it started early, fueled by my father's influence and the matches I watched, especially when India faced South Africa. Morkel and Steyn were my favorites, and they motivated me to pursue fast bowling,” Yadav explained during an interview on JioStar.

He acknowledged that his speed wasn't always apparent, noting that fast bowling is both physically and mentally challenging. It was during his initial IPL experience that he discovered his potential when trainers used a speed gun to measure his bowling speed, revealing his natural ability.

“I wouldn’t claim that I was always known for my high speed. Many now refer to me as a prodigy with innate talent, which is flattering. However, I wasn’t a standout from the beginning. Fast bowling is unpredictable, and it can be a fine line between success and failure. The physical and mental strain is significant. It was only when I joined the IPL that I realized my talent through speed measurements, and I learned to appreciate this gift,” he added.

Under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, the Lucknow Super Giants will kick off their IPL 2026 campaign against the Delhi Capitals on April 1. Their schedule also includes matches against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 5, the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 9, and the Gujarat Titans on April 12, as announced by the BCCI.

Lucknow Super Giants squad for IPL 2026 includes: Rishabh Pant (captain), Aiden Markram, Himmat Singh, Matthew Breetzke, Mukul Choudhary, Akshat Raghuwanshi, Josh Inglis, Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell Marsh, Abdul Samad, Shahbaz Ahamad, Arshin Kulkarni, Wanindu Hasaranga, Ayush Badoni, Mohammad Shami, Avesh Khan, M.
