Pathirana Excited to Join KKR

New Delhi, December 16: Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana has shared his enthusiasm about signing with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The franchise secured his services for a whopping Rs 18 crore during the IPL 2026 Auction.


Expressing his feelings about the move, Pathirana stated that he is eager to be part of the Purple and Gold team and reconnect with familiar teammates.


"I’m thrilled to join the Purple & Gold Army for this IPL season and can’t wait to collaborate with Bravo again and everyone else," Pathirana mentioned in a video shared on X by KKR.

Pathirana has made a mark in T20 cricket, claiming 31 wickets in 21 T20 Internationals at an average of 18.25, including two four-wicket hauls. In total, he has taken 133 wickets in 100 T20 matches at an average of 21.40. During his time in the IPL, he has secured 47 wickets for the Chennai Super Kings across 32 games, averaging over 21. In the previous season, he took 12 wickets in 13 matches.


The bidding for Pathirana began with the Delhi Capitals, followed by interest from the Lucknow Super Giants.


As the bidding heated up between LSG and DC, Pathirana's price climbed to Rs 10.4 crore. When the bid reached Rs 15.8 crore, KKR entered the competition at Rs 16 crore, quickly increasing it to Rs 18 crore to finalize the deal.


Pathirana's addition is expected to bolster KKR's bowling lineup, as he is recognized for his speed, precise yorkers, and effectiveness during the death overs.
