A Stunning Moment in IPL History

In Raipur, Chhattisgarh, on May 14, veteran KKR player Manish Pandey made headlines with a remarkable catch that dismissed the formidable Tim David during a match against RCB.

Aakash Chopra, a former Indian cricketer turned commentator, lauded Pandey's catch, labeling it as 'one of the finest in IPL history'.

During his commentary on JioHotstar's 'Champions Waali Commentary', Chopra remarked, 'Manish Pandey's catch was extraordinary. This season has seen nearly 175 dropped catches, but occasionally, a spectacular moment like this emerges. Manish dived fully to his left and executed a stunning grab. The umpires had to verify two things: whether the ball touched the ground and whether it was Pandey or Glenn Phillips who made the catch.'

He continued, 'We often see Phillips take such incredible catches, but this time it was Pandey who left everyone in awe. Tim David was visibly shocked, unable to believe what had just happened. This catch will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the best in IPL history. Manish Pandey has participated in all 19 IPL seasons, joining the ranks of only Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, while MS Dhoni has yet to play this season.'

The catch occurred on the fifth delivery of the 18th over, as RCB pursued a target of 193 runs. Tim David attempted a shot against Kartik Tyagi's delivery, which soared just above ground level towards the point region where Pandey was positioned.

With a swift lean to his left, Pandey secured the ball with his left hand, leaving both Virat Kohli, who was at the non-striker's end, and David in disbelief. The umpires conducted two checks before declaring him out.

Despite Pandey's exceptional catch, RCB successfully chased down the target in 19.1 overs, winning the match by six wickets. Virat Kohli achieved his ninth IPL century, finishing unbeaten at 105 runs off 60 balls, including 11 fours and three sixes.

With this victory, RCB climbed to the top of the table, boasting eight wins and four losses for a total of 16 points. Conversely, KKR, which had recently ended a four-match unbeaten streak after six consecutive losses (including five defeats and one no result), now faces a significant challenge to secure a playoff spot, making their final three matches crucial.
