Celebrating a Historic Victory

On August 17, in London, Sanjiv Goenka, co-owner of the Manchester Super Giants (MSG), expressed his joy after the team secured their first Men's Hundred title, emphasizing that it was a collective effort throughout the tournament.


Tim Seifert's explosive half-century played a crucial role in MSG's triumph, as they defeated the Trent Rockets by five wickets in the final held at Lord's on Sunday.


In a post on X, Goenka shared, "Champions in our very first season! @ManchesterSG100 What an incredible night at Lord's, a proud moment for everyone in the Super Giants family. This victory was a team effort from start to finish. Tim, what an innings! Noor, your brilliant bowling at key moments was invaluable."


He also commended Jos Buttler for his leadership, stepping in as captain for Aiden Markram, and highlighted the unity of the squad during the knockout stages.


"Jos has been a leader throughout the season, and the way the team came together during the knockouts was pivotal in turning our season around. Congratulations to Jos and every player who contributed to this success. A heartfelt thank you to our supporters; this victory is for you," he added.


Seifert Shines in the Final


Seifert had an outstanding performance, earning both the 'Player of the Match' and 'Player of the Tournament' awards. He scored 72 runs off 38 balls, hitting four fours and seven sixes, leading his team to victory.


MSG won the toss and opted to field first. The Rockets started with Ben Duckett scoring 31 runs off 24 balls, but their innings faltered as Noor Ahmed took 3 wickets for 33 runs, dismantling their batting order.


Despite a promising 38 runs from Aneurin Donald, the Rockets struggled, finishing at 158/8, with contributions from Mitchell Santner and Lewis Gregory helping to stabilize their innings.


In response, Seifert and Paul Walter set a solid foundation with a 66-run partnership for the first wicket. Buttler also made a quick 23 runs, while Seifert reached his fifty in just 23 balls, marking a record of five fifties in a single tournament.


With the match on the line, Seifert and Leus du Plooy guided MSG to victory, with Liam Dawson hitting the winning six, sealing the match with two balls to spare.


Mohammad Amir was the standout bowler for the Rockets, taking 3 wickets for 29 runs.
