Lucknow Super Giants Coach Reflects on Defeat Against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025
Post-Match Insights from LSG's Assistant Coach
New Delhi [India] - April 23: Vijay Dahiya, the assistant coach of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), acknowledged the team's early struggles during their match against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
He noted that they aimed to turn the game around by urging Miller to adopt a more aggressive batting approach, hoping this would accelerate their scoring rate and help bridge the gap.
“We found ourselves trailing in the match. The strategy was to encourage Miller to play more offensively, which could have allowed us to stage a comeback. If we had a run rate of 10 or 15 in those overs, the outcome might have been different,” Dahiya stated during the post-match press conference.
Dahiya assessed that LSG lost their rhythm due to conceding too many runs in the 8th and 9th overs. He also pointed out the difficulties posed by the pitch, emphasizing their failure to maintain momentum while commending the Delhi Capitals' bowlers for their effective adaptation to the playing conditions.
“Aside from the pitch conditions, we allowed over 80 runs in the 8th and 9th overs, which significantly affected our momentum. Instead of focusing solely on the pitch, we need to address other factors. We should have capitalized on our momentum. Credit goes to Delhi Capitals' bowlers for their excellent assessment of the conditions at that moment,” he added.
KL Rahul led the charge for DC with a half-century, guiding his team to an eight-wicket victory over his former side, LSG, at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Abishek Porel (51) and Axar Patel (34*) also played crucial roles with the bat.
Rishabh Pant faced a tough match and drew criticism for batting at No. 7, as LSG could only muster a total of 159 runs. Aiden Markram was the standout performer for LSG, scoring a fifty and taking two wickets.
