Dramatic Finish in Indian Super League Clash

Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) [India], April 9 – In a thrilling encounter at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur FC managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Mumbai City FC, thanks to a late equalizer from substitute Sarthak Goloui. This match, part of the Indian Super League 2025-26, saw Brandon Fernandes score for Mumbai in the first half.

The outcome keeps Mumbai City FC at the top of the league table with 18 points, while Jamshedpur FC climbs to second place with 15 points after a fiercely contested match. Brandon Fernandes was named Player of the Match, as announced in a release.

The match kicked off with both teams displaying aggressive attacking strategies. Mumbai City initiated the first attack in the fourth minute through right winger Vikram Partap Singh, while Jamshedpur responded with several offensive plays led by left winger Mohammed Sanan, striker Raphael Messi Bouli, and Ritwik Kumar Das.

As the first half progressed, Mumbai City began to dominate the attacking play. Hmingthanmawia Ralte's shot narrowly missed the target after a deflection, and Lalnuntluanga Bawitlung forced a crucial save from goalkeeper Albino Gomes. The visitors continued to threaten from set pieces, with Akash Mishra and Captain Lallianzuala Chhangte both coming close with headers.

Despite the pressure from Mumbai, Jamshedpur remained a threat on the counterattack. Bouli nearly scored with a header, and although Lalhriatpuia Chawngthu and Nikola Stojanovic worked well together, they couldn't find the back of the net. Bouli showcased his skill in the 31st minute, controlling a long pass before unleashing a powerful shot that was saved by Islanders keeper Phurba Lachenpa.

Just before halftime, Mumbai City struck first with a well-executed play. Joni Kauko initiated the move on the left before passing to Noufal PN, who set up Brandon Fernandes. The midfielder displayed excellent composure, turning quickly and firing a shot that deflected off Jamshedpur's captain Stephen Eze, wrong-footing Albino Gomes and rolling into the far corner, giving Mumbai the lead at halftime.

Jamshedpur thought they had equalized early in the second half when Bouli scored, but the goal was disallowed for offside. The home team continued to press forward, with Sanan and Ritwik creating opportunities for Stojanovic, whose shot went just over the bar.

Jamshedpur maintained their relentless pressure, dominating possession and keeping Mumbai City pinned in their half. Eze came close to scoring when Lachenpa ventured off his line, and Vincy Barretto's shot was blocked by Nuno Reis in a crucial defensive play.

On the other hand, Mumbai looked to counterattack and nearly doubled their lead in the 72nd minute with a well-coordinated team move. Noufal PN opened up the defense before passing to Lallianzuala Chhangte, but the captain's shot went wide.

As the match neared its conclusion, Jamshedpur intensified their efforts for an equalizer. Lachenpa made a crucial save from a long throw, but the pressure finally paid off in the 90th minute.

From a corner taken by Stojanovic, the ball reached the far post where Sarthak Goloui rose to meet it, directing a header that hit the underside of the crossbar and crossed the line, igniting jubilation among the home fans as Jamshedpur leveled the score at 1-1.

In stoppage time, Jamshedpur sought a winner, but Mumbai City held firm, resulting in a hard-fought draw between these two top contenders.
