New Delhi, April 26: Dinesh Karthik, the batting coach and mentor for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has praised all-rounder Krunal Pandya for his innovative approach to finger-spin bowling, asserting that he is reshaping the craft.
RCB is set to face Delhi Capitals (DC) in their next Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Monday in Delhi. Currently, RCB holds the second position on the points table with 10 points and aims to solidify their standing as the tournament advances.
In anticipation of the match, Karthik commended Krunal Pandya for his ability to redefine finger-spin bowling, emphasizing his creative variations and growing expertise. He noted that Krunal's knack for instilling uncertainty in batters and achieving consistent outcomes signifies his development as an all-rounder. Karthik remarked that Krunal's influence illustrates the transformative nature of the IPL on the sport.
“Krunal Pandya is a player who will be remembered in this game for years to come. He is expanding the horizons of finger-spin and delivering balls that were once thought impossible. He is mastering this art. His understanding of when to apply his variations to unsettle batters often leads to success. Much of the credit goes to him for his evolution as an all-rounder. The IPL is altering the cricket landscape, and Krunal is doing the same for finger-spin bowling,” Karthik stated.
Krunal has been a valuable asset for RCB this IPL season, having taken eight wickets in seven matches and contributing a vital 23 runs off 12 balls in RCB's last game against the Gujarat Titans.
Karthik also provided an update regarding opener Phil Salt, who was sidelined from the match against GT due to an injury. He confirmed that Salt is still in recovery and will not participate in the upcoming game against DC.
“He’s currently injured,” Karthik mentioned.
Additionally, Karthik praised RCB captain Rajat Patidar for his composed and strategic leadership, noting his consistent batting performance, respect among teammates, and effective management of bowlers.
Patidar has accumulated 238 runs in seven innings, boasting an impressive strike rate of 210.61.
“Rajat Patidar is continually raising his standards. He remains calm and thoughtful, which is evident in his batting. He commands respect in the locker room and manages his bowlers effectively. Under pressure, he maintains his composure and makes sound decisions,” Karthik added.
