Kolkata Knight Riders' Strong Performance at Eden Gardens

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], April 9: In the 15th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) managed to score a solid 181 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their 20 overs against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the renowned Eden Gardens on Thursday.

After winning the toss, LSG chose to bowl first on a pitch that was anticipated to support both pace and spin as the match progressed. KKR's innings featured some early contributions, but the loss of regular wickets prevented them from achieving a significantly higher score.

LSG made an early breakthrough when Prince Yadav dismissed opener Finn Allen for just 9 runs in the second over. However, captain Ajinkya Rahane (41 runs off 24 balls) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (45 runs off 33 balls) responded aggressively, guiding KKR to a strong 56/1 at the end of the Powerplay.

The pair appeared poised to take control of the match, particularly after they scored 16 runs off Avesh Khan in the 6th over, highlighted by a massive six from Rahane.

A pivotal moment occurred when LSG's spin bowlers, Digvesh Singh Rathi and Manimaran Siddharth, were brought into the attack.

Rathi ended the threatening 84-run partnership by dismissing Rahane, who misplayed a pull shot to Mohammed Shami on the second ball of the 11th over.

This 84-run partnership was KKR's second-highest against LSG for any wicket, following the 120 runs scored by Shreyas Iyer and Salt for the third wicket at the same venue in 2024.

In the subsequent over, Raghuvanshi fell to Siddharth. Avesh Khan then bowled Rinku Singh (4) with a sharp delivery that hit the top of the off-stump during the second ball of the 14th over.

After 15 overs, KKR stood at 115/4, with LSG bowlers maintaining a disciplined approach that effectively controlled the run rate.

Nevertheless, the powerful partnership of Rovman Powell (39 not out off 24) and Cameron Green (32 not out off 24) provided a late surge, adding crucial runs in the final overs to elevate the total beyond 180.

Mohammed Shami was the standout bowler for LSG in terms of economy, allowing only 27 runs in his 4 overs, while Siddharth, Rathi, Avesh, and Prince Yadav each took one wicket.
