Kolkata Knight Riders' Kartik Tyagi Discusses Team's Struggles Ahead of Match Against Gujarat Titans
Kolkata Knight Riders Seek Momentum in IPL 2026
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India] - April 16: Kartik Tyagi, the fast bowler for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has pointed to missed chances and a bit of bad luck as reasons for his team's struggles in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He emphasized the necessity for greater intent and consistency as they prepare to face the Gujarat Titans (GT).
During a pre-match press briefing, Tyagi expressed that the team has struggled to seize opportunities in tight matches and is still in search of its first victory this season.
“I believe luck has played a role. We’ve lost several matches where luck wasn’t on our side. Our last game was a tough loss. We need to show more intent this time around. The entire team feels disappointed, but we are working on what we can improve,” he stated.
Regarding Sri Lankan bowler Matheesha Pathirana, KKR confirmed they have received his No Objection Certificate (NOC), but due to logistical challenges, he will not be available for the upcoming match.
“We have the NOC for Matheesha Pathirana, but we are currently sorting out his travel arrangements. He won’t be available for tomorrow’s game, but we will keep everyone updated,” Tyagi mentioned.
Tyagi also shared insights about his own recovery from shin splints, explaining how the injury led him to adjust his bowling technique and approach.
“I dealt with recurring shin splints whenever I tried to return to play. I took a year off to understand the issue better. I had to alter my run-up and focus on becoming a more effective bowler,” he explained.
He emphasized that continuous improvement at the highest level is his main goal.
In support of his teammate Varun Chakravarthy, who has faced challenges in IPL 2026, Tyagi remarked that every cricketer experiences ups and downs in their career.
“Every player goes through phases where they struggle. However, overcoming these tough times ultimately makes you a better bowler,” he concluded.
