Kolkata Knight Riders' Preparations for IPL 2026

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are set to be a team to watch as the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicks off on March 28. After a disappointing 8th place finish last season, the franchise has undergone a complete overhaul in hopes of a better outcome. However, they are facing challenges with injuries to key players ahead of the season opener. Notably, Harshit Rana, a crucial fast bowler, is anticipated to miss the entire IPL 2026 due to injury. Additionally, their significant signing, Matheesha Pathirana, also sustained an injury during the T20 World Cup 2026, with no updates on his recovery timeline. Despite these setbacks, KKR has decided against seeking replacements for either player.

As reported by Cricbuzz, KKR is confident in their existing Indian pace bowling options and does not plan to replace Harshit Rana. The team already has Vaibhav Arora and Umran Malik from the previous season, and they have also acquired Aakash Deep and Kartik Tyagi during the IPL 2026 auction.

Matheesha Pathirana's Status

Pathirana's injury occurred during the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2026, sidelining him for the entire tournament. Nevertheless, KKR is optimistic about his potential return during the IPL 2026 season. His manager, Amila Kalugalage, recently shared a photo of Pathirana in a KKR jersey on social media, suggesting that the bowler may be gearing up to participate in the upcoming season.
