Kolkata Knight Riders Eye IPL 2026 Playoffs After Third Consecutive Win
KKR's Resurgence in IPL 2026
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have shown remarkable improvement in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL), securing their third consecutive victory and keeping their playoff hopes alive. On Sunday, May 3, they triumphed over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. After a challenging start to the season, where they lost five matches and had one washout, KKR has now climbed to eighth place with seven points.
They are now safe from falling to ninth position, regardless of the outcome of the upcoming match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 4 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. KKR is just one point behind both Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC), who currently sit in sixth and seventh place with eight points each. These two teams are set to face off on May 5 in Delhi.
Playoff Prospects for KKR
Can KKR Still Qualify for IPL 2026 Playoffs?
KKR remains in contention for the playoffs, but they must win all their remaining five matches to finish with 17 points, which would likely secure them a spot in the top four. However, a single loss would leave them with only 15 points, which may not be sufficient. Historically, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) managed to qualify for the playoffs with just 14 points in 2024, but this is a rare occurrence in a 10-team league.
Currently, the Punjab Kings have 13 points, while three teams, including Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and RCB, are at 12 points. Given this competitive landscape, it seems unlikely that 14 points will suffice this season. On a positive note, KKR has never missed out on the playoffs with 16 points in previous seasons. With a washout against PBKS, KKR holds a unique advantage, as they will be one of the few teams to finish with odd points unless other matches are also washed out, alleviating concerns about their Net Run Rate (NRR).
Upcoming Matches for KKR
KKR Remaining Fixtures
| Opponent | Date | Venue | Time (IST) |
| Delhi Capitals | 8th May | Delhi | 7:30 PM |
| Royal Challengers Bengaluru | 13th May | Raipur | 7:30 PM |
| Gujarat Titans | 16th May | Kolkata | 7:30 PM |
| Mumbai Indians | 20th May | Kolkata | 7:30 PM |

KKR's advantage lies in the fact that their last three matches will be played at home, including a crucial game against the Mumbai Indians, who have struggled this season with only two wins out of nine matches. With two matches against DC, KKR has the opportunity to gain ground on a team just above them in the standings. The Gujarat Titans are also only three points ahead, making these upcoming matches critical for KKR's playoff aspirations. Additionally, they will play in Raipur, which is not the usual home ground for the defending champions. KKR has a history of remarkable comebacks, having reached the playoffs in 2014 and 2021 after winning only two of their first seven games.
