Kolkata Knight Riders End Sunrisers Hyderabad's Winning Streak with Dominant Performance
KKR's Impressive Victory Over SRH
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) showcased a stellar performance, led by the revitalized Varun Chakravarthy and milestone achiever Sunil Narine, to secure a convincing seven-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), halting their five-match winning streak in the Indian Premier League on Sunday.
Chakravarthy's impressive figures of 3/36 and Narine's 2/31 were pivotal in restricting SRH to 165 runs in 19 overs. KKR successfully chased down the target with 10 balls remaining, marking their third consecutive victory.
This match marked Chakravarthy's fourth straight game with at least two wickets, while Narine celebrated joining the elite 200-wicket club in the IPL.
In his 197th match, Narine joined the ranks of Bhuvneshwar Kumar (215 wickets in 199 matches) and Yuzvendra Chahal (228 wickets in 182 matches) as part of this exclusive group.
During the chase, KKR lost Impact Player Finn Allen early in the fourth over after he scored a brisk 39 runs off just 13 balls, leaving the team at 49. However, captain Ajinkya Rahane (43 off 36 balls) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (59 off 47 balls) steadied the innings with a solid second-wicket partnership of 84 runs over 11 overs.
Rahane, who had struggled to score half-centuries in his previous eight matches, hit four boundaries and a six, while Raghuvanshi contributed with five fours and two sixes.
Rinku Singh sealed the victory with a boundary, finishing unbeaten on 22 runs from 11 balls.
Earlier, SRH opted to bat and started strong, reaching 77 for 1 after the powerplay and 107 for 2 at the halfway point, thanks to Travis Head's explosive 61 runs off 28 balls, marking his second consecutive half-century.
However, SRH's batting lineup collapsed dramatically in the latter half, losing nine wickets for just 60 runs in 10 overs, resulting in their first complete innings dismissal of IPL 2026.
Kartik Tyagi contributed with figures of 2/30.
Head's innings featured nine fours and three sixes, supported by Ishan Kishan's 42 runs off 29 balls. This was the third consecutive match where SRH scored over 100 runs in the first 10 overs.
Head's aggressive batting included a partnership of 44 runs with Abhishek Sharma (15 off 10 balls) for the opening wicket and a 61-run stand with Kishan for the second wicket.
Head was particularly destructive against Vaibhav Arora, hitting four boundaries in the second over and continued his assault on Narine with a six and a four in the third over. He also punished Cameron Green with three fours in the fifth over.
However, after Head's dismissal on the last ball of the ninth over, bowled by Chakravarthy, SRH's batting crumbled.
Heinrich Klaasen (11) was dismissed following a remarkable catch by Rovman Powell off Green's bowling, where Powell leaped to catch the ball while hitting his head on the ground. This marked Klaasen's lowest score of the season.
Chakravarthy then dismissed Ravichandran Smaran and Aniket Verma in consecutive overs, while Narine claimed the wicket of the well-set Kishan in the 16th over, marking his 200th wicket.
