Kolkata Knight Riders Achieve First IPL 2026 Victory Against Rajasthan Royals
KKR Celebrates Emotional First Win
After a challenging start to the IPL 2026 season, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) finally secured their inaugural victory against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Eden Gardens on April 19 (Sunday). This win was crucial for KKR, who had struggled at the bottom of the points table, managing only one point from their first six matches, which was earned from a rain-affected game against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The players were visibly moved by the win, with Varun Chakaravarthy sharing insights into the emotional atmosphere in the dressing room post-match.
During the post-match press conference, Chakaravarthy expressed the significance of the victory, noting that many players were in tears, a reaction he hadn't witnessed even during their IPL title win in 2024. He attributed the success to the coaching staff, stating, “This win is very significant. I saw many tears in the dressing room today, which we didn’t even see in the year we won the IPL in 2024. The main credit goes to the coaching staff because they didn’t let the outside noise affect us. There were too many baseless judgments being made. At such times, you need a strong core, and we have that.”
Rinku Singh's Performance Leads KKR to Victory
KKR triumphed over Rajasthan Royals by four wickets, largely due to Rinku Singh's impressive unbeaten 53 runs. Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy played pivotal roles in restricting RR to a total of 155 for 9. Despite a strong start from Yashasvi Jaiswal (39) and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (46), who propelled RR to 81-0 in just 8.3 overs, KKR's bowlers tightened the grip, with Chakaravarthy (3/14) and Narine (2/26) effectively stifling the opposition's scoring. Although Riyan Parag (12) and Shimron Hetmyer (15) contributed, Kartik Tyagi's remarkable over, where he took three wickets, left RR struggling to recover. KKR faced early challenges in their chase, losing half their side for just 70 runs by the 11th over. However, Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy (29) formed a vital partnership of 76 runs off 37 balls, guiding KKR to victory with two balls to spare.
