KKR's Tim Southee Optimistic About Cameron Green's Return Ahead of IPL Clash
Cameron Green's Comeback Anticipated
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], April 5: As the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) gear up for their IPL match against Punjab Kings (PBKS), head coach Tim Southee has shared positive news regarding all-rounder Cameron Green, who is expected to resume bowling shortly.
KKR Seeks First Win Amid Bowling Challenges
After suffering two disappointing losses, KKR is eager to secure their inaugural victory of the season at Eden Gardens against the 2025 runners-up. The team has been significantly impacted by the absence of bowlers Harshit Rana and Matheesha Pathirana. Compounding the issue, Green, who was acquired for Rs 25.20 crores, has been sidelined from bowling due to a lower-back injury, as confirmed by Cricket Australia (CA) at the end of March, which stated he would return to bowling in 10-12 days.
Green's Progress in Training
In the lead-up to the match, Green was observed bowling vigorously in the nets, working to increase his bowling workload. When asked about Green's potential to bowl in upcoming matches, Southee remarked during the pre-match press conference, "Green has been bowling well, and we are closely monitoring his rehabilitation to ensure he can bowl in games. We maintain regular communication with Australian Cricket, and I am confident we will see him bowling soon."
Bowling Attack Under Pressure
Following the two defeats, KKR's bowling lineup, featuring uncapped Indian players Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi, and Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani, has struggled, conceding excessive runs. The performance of spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine has also been below par.
Southee's Confidence in Young Bowlers
Despite the challenges, Southee expressed optimism about the pace attack, highlighting their potential. He noted that while glimpses of their talent were evident in the first two matches, consistency is key. "It's a long tournament, and although we've faced setbacks with our bowlers, it opens doors for others. We remain excited about our bowling group. They may lack experience, but they possess significant skills," the former New Zealand player stated.
Focus on Individual Performances
Regarding Kartik Tyagi, who has taken two wickets but has an economy rate of 11.37, Southee commented, "He has impressive pace and a diverse skill set, and we are working to maximize his potential. He has prepared well for this tournament, and we hope it will be a breakthrough season for him."
Vaibhav Arora's Role as Lead Bowler
On Vaibhav Arora, who has stepped up as the leading Indian pacer in the absence of Harshit, Southee noted, "He performed well for us last year, taking early wickets with his ability to swing the ball." He emphasized the need to harness the talent of the less experienced bowlers, stating, "It’s about unlocking their potential and allowing them to showcase their abilities on this platform."
