KKR's Bowling Dominance Secures Victory Against SRH in IPL Clash
Rahane Praises Bowling Unit After KKR's Win
Ajinkya Rahane, the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, expressed his admiration for the team's bowling performance following their recent IPL match. He credited the bowlers for limiting Sunrisers Hyderabad to a modest score, which paved the way for KKR's seven-wicket victory.
Key contributions came from Varun Chakravarthy, who took 3 wickets for 36 runs, and Sunil Narine, who achieved 2 wickets for 31 runs, helping to dismiss SRH for 165 runs in just 19 overs. KKR successfully chased down the target with 10 balls remaining, marking their third consecutive win.
Rahane remarked, "It was a great game. Our bowlers made a strong comeback. Initially, it seemed like SRH would score between 190-200, which would have posed a significant challenge. However, our bowling unit, particularly the spinners, consistently took wickets."
He added, "Those crucial moments are vital, and I’m thrilled with the win. Our bowlers have been performing exceptionally well over the last five to six matches."
Rahane also acknowledged the efforts of their bowling coaches, Dwayne Bravo and Tim Southee, stating, "While there may be times when runs are scored, maintaining clarity in our approach is essential. This victory was crucial as we head into a break."
After their win against Lucknow Super Giants on April 26, the KKR squad took a brief hiatus to recharge and regroup before facing SRH.
"We held a couple of practice sessions. It’s important to be mentally refreshed. The support staff has been doing an excellent job. Despite losing our first five matches, the atmosphere remained calm," Rahane noted.
Chakravarthy's performance earned him the Player of the Match title, marking his fourth consecutive game with at least two wickets. Rahane expressed his happiness for Chakravarthy, praising his confidence, hard work, and positive attitude.
In the chase, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rahane (who scored 43 runs off 36 balls) formed a solid partnership, adding 84 runs for the second wicket in 11 overs.
SRH Captain Reflects on Missed Opportunities
Pat Cummins, the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, acknowledged that his batting lineup struggled to adapt after a promising start, resulting in a subpar total.
"It wasn’t our best performance. We began well, but we lost our sharpness. We aimed for a score of 200, then adjusted to 180, but it didn’t work out. Adaptation is key," he stated.
"The first 8-10 overs were strong, but KKR utilized their match-ups effectively, and our performance in the latter half was lacking. We should have targeted 180 instead," Cummins added.
"The margins in cricket are narrow. We showcased some good moments and fought until the end, but my over costing 27 runs likely made a significant impact. We had our chances, but the fine margins didn’t favor us."
Raghuvanshi Celebrates His Dream Come True
Raghuvanshi was dismissed in the 17th over, just as KKR was nearing victory.
"I’m just glad we won. As I walked off, I noticed my coach shaking his head at how I got out. There’s still room for improvement. The start provided by Finn and Ajinkya made things easier for us," he shared.
"Batting alongside Ajinkya bhaiya is great; our communication is excellent and helps calm me down. I’ve always dreamed of this moment since I was a child. I’m living my dream and learning from so many stars around me. I wouldn’t change a thing," he expressed.
Raghuvanshi's dismissal occurred when he attempted an aerial drive over extra cover, only to be caught by Eshan Malinga off Shivang Kumar’s delivery.
"I aimed to hit it straight back over his head, which is why I felt disappointed. Perhaps if I had played it inside-out, it would have been better. I was performing well in the nets, and my previous dismissal didn’t help my confidence," he concluded.
