Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], August 21: Fast bowler Kartik Tyagi from Meerut Mavericks has expressed his admiration for captain Rinku Singh, asserting that the left-handed batsman is among the top five finishers in global cricket, particularly in high-pressure death overs.
Tyagi's comments follow Rinku's remarkable performance in Match 8 of the UP T20 League Season 4, where he led his team to a thrilling victory against the Lucknow Falcons at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.
In that match, Meerut faced a challenging target of 184 and found themselves behind the DLS par score as rain began to fall in the 17th over. With the game hanging in the balance, Rinku launched a stunning counter-attack, scoring 26 runs off just five balls in the 17th over bowled by Navneet Kumar. His explosive, unbeaten 55 off 24 balls helped the Mavericks reach 154/6 in 16.5 overs, just five runs ahead of the DLS requirement before heavy rain interrupted play, securing a remarkable win for his team.
Reflecting on his captain's exceptional performance, Tyagi, who previously shared the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) dressing room with Rinku during the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) and now plays under his leadership at Meerut Mavericks, elaborated on what makes the southpaw such a powerful player.
“Considering the position he bats in and his ability to perform under pressure, he ranks among the top five finishers globally. As long as he is at the crease, we have the confidence that he can turn the match in our favor, regardless of the situation. His dedication and hard work are unmatched, and the results speak for themselves, benefiting our team immensely,” he stated.
Rinku's status as a top-tier death-overs batsman is supported by his impressive statistics in T20 cricket, where he has accumulated 702 runs in 48 T20 Internationals at an average of 37 and a strike rate of 156, along with several explosive performances in the IPL.
