Karnataka Officials Discuss IPL Ticket Allocations Ahead of Season Opener
Ticket Allocations for IPL Matches
In Bengaluru, Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar addressed the requests from legislators regarding complimentary tickets for the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. He noted that in the past, each MLA, MP, and minister was entitled to one ticket.
For the upcoming IPL opener, members will now receive two tickets if they bring family members along, with future match arrangements to be determined later.
Shivakumar explained, "We cannot provide four tickets. Previously, every MLA, MP, and Minister received one ticket. Now, we have asked for two tickets if family members attend. For tomorrow's first match, they will receive two tickets. Future matches will be discussed later."
His comments followed a suggestion from Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar, who proposed that each MLA should be allocated at least five IPL tickets, arguing that elected officials are "VIPs" who should not have to queue.
The IPL 2026 season is set to commence on March 28 at Chinnaswamy Stadium, featuring a match between the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Prior to the opening match, Karnataka Government Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh convened a meeting with relevant officials and KSCA representatives to discuss safety measures.
Rajneesh emphasized the importance of security and provided guidance on various arrangements, including traffic management, parking, and water supply within the stadium. She also reviewed the metro's passenger density and security enhancements at metro stations, ensuring that all necessary precautions are in place to prevent any incidents.
She instructed that all safety protocols mandated by the government for the IPL matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium must be strictly adhered to. The meeting included participation from the KSCA Board of Directors, RCB officials, City Police Commissioner, GBA Commissioner, Metro MD, and heads of relevant departments.
Having secured their first IPL title last year, RCB enters the new season as a strong contender, while Sunrisers Hyderabad is anticipated to provide a tough challenge.
Hyderabad features a powerful batting lineup with standout players like Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Heinrich Klaasen, and Nitish Reddy.
RCB will depend on the skills and experience of stars such as Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Jitesh Sharma. Both teams are eager to kick off their campaigns with a victory.
