Rabada's Impactful Bowling Leads to Victory
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], April 26: Gujarat Titans (GT) fast bowler Kagiso Rabada expressed his contentment following a decisive eight-wicket win against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their IPL 2026 encounter on Sunday. Rabada's impressive bowling figures of 3 wickets for 25 runs in four overs earned him the Player of the Match accolade.
His performance was pivotal in limiting CSK to a modest score of 158 runs for 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs, as he took down key players including Sanju Samson, Urvil Patel, and Kartik Sharma.
During the post-match presentation, Rabada reflected on his performance, admitting he was not entirely satisfied with his initial overs but was glad to have contributed to the team's success and secured vital points.
“I didn’t feel I started well. That’s cricket for you. I’m happy to have played a role in leading the team to victory. We needed those two points,” Rabada stated.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining a competitive edge by not taking success for granted and continuously striving for improvement. Rabada acknowledged that while the team has been successful in taking wickets, they must also focus on restricting runs.
“It’s about not taking anything for granted. Sticking to your process and always seeking improvement is crucial. The moment you stop trying to improve is when you retire. We’ve been taking many wickets, but we also need to find ways to contain runs. It’s been a wonderful journey so far,” he added.
In the match, GT successfully chased down the target of 159 runs with 20 balls remaining.
Sai Sudharsan was the standout performer with a remarkable 87 runs off 46 balls, while Shubman Gill contributed a solid 33 runs before his dismissal. Jos Buttler's 39 runs helped GT secure a comfortable victory, elevating them to fifth place in the points table with their fourth win of the season.
GT captain Shubman Gill expressed his satisfaction with the win, particularly given the challenging conditions in that region of India. He noted the team's strong overall performance, despite some concerns regarding the last few overs of their bowling. Gill also praised Sudharsan's excellent form and his ability to remain at the crease.
“I’m very happy. Winning like this in this part of India is great. Aside from the last four or five overs, it was a complete performance. If I had to critique, finishing an innings has been a challenge. Overall, it was a good effort from us. Regarding Sai Sudharsan, he is batting exceptionally well. His form has always been there; it’s all about spending time at the crease,” Gill remarked.
