Rabada Makes History in IPL

Dharamsala (Himachal Pradesh) [India], May 26: During the intense Qualifier 1 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Gujarat Titans' star bowler Kagiso Rabada made a significant mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL) record books.

The South African fast bowler achieved the milestone of having the highest number of powerplay wickets in a single IPL season after taking down Venkatesh Iyer in this crucial match.

With this wicket, Rabada surpassed Mohammed Shami, who had previously held the record with 17 powerplay wickets during the 2023 IPL season.

In addition, the Gujarat Titans' bowling unit showcased an impressive and well-rounded performance throughout the IPL 2026 season. They became only the second team in IPL history, following the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024, to have five bowlers each claiming 15 or more wickets in a single season.

The standout bowlers included Rabada (26), Rashid Khan (19), Mohammed Siraj (17), Jason Holder (15), and Prasidh Krishna (15). The formidable new-ball duo of Rabada and Siraj has consistently dominated opposing batting lineups, with their pace attack collectively taking an impressive 84 wickets throughout the season.

This total ranks as the second-highest for a pace attack in a single IPL season, only trailing behind the 89 wickets taken by the Rajasthan Royals' seamers during their 2013 campaign.

In the match itself, a spectacular innings from Rajat Patidar, along with vital contributions from Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, and Krunal Pandya, propelled Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a staggering total of 254/5 against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 of the IPL.

RCB also made history by achieving the highest score ever recorded in an IPL playoff or knockout match, surpassing GT's previous record of 233/3 against the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 at Ahmedabad in 2023.
