Hazlewood's Impactful Performance

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India] - April 16: Josh Hazlewood, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pacer, was awarded Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling in the team's five-wicket triumph against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) during IPL 2026. He expressed feeling in "good shape" and successfully adapted to the slow pitch conditions in Bengaluru.

Reflecting on his performance, Hazlewood stressed the significance of evaluating conditions early and modifying strategies accordingly. "I felt much better today, in good shape. You have to consider your opponents; the conditions play a role, and it was a slow wicket today, so I focused on hitting the right length," he stated during the post-match presentation.

The Australian bowler also mentioned his continuous efforts to develop variations, especially slower deliveries, to maintain his effectiveness in T20 cricket. "I want to incorporate some unique deliveries... always working on those slower balls... keep progressing," he remarked.

Hazlewood further acknowledged that quickly assessing match conditions was a crucial advantage for RCB, enabling them to limit LSG to a subpar score. "Summarizing the conditions as quickly as possible is a significant benefit for us," he added.

Looking forward, the fast bowler expressed optimism about his fitness and participation in upcoming matches, stating he anticipates continuing to play regularly in the tournament. "The plan is to keep playing; the schedule looks favorable, so I should be fine to continue," he mentioned.

RCB, the defending champions, achieved a convincing five-wicket victory over LSG in IPL 2026, successfully chasing a target of 147 with 29 balls remaining.

Virat Kohli played a pivotal role in the chase, scoring a solid 49, while Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma made quick contributions, ensuring RCB's comfortable win and propelling them to the top of the points table.

Earlier, LSG faced a significant batting collapse after being invited to bat first, ending their innings at 146. Despite a resilient 40 from Mitchell Marsh, regular wickets and a lack of momentum hindered their progress, with Rasikh Salam Dar excelling with a four-wicket haul, supported by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood.

LSG also encountered challenges, including Rishabh Pant briefly retiring hurt and later getting dismissed cheaply, as RCB's disciplined bowling attack maintained pressure throughout the match.

RCB's comprehensive performance secured a decisive victory and solidified their standing in the tournament. They now sit at the top of the table with eight points from five matches, while LSG is positioned seventh with four points from four matches.
