Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings: Match Preview

Dharamsala (Himachal Pradesh) [India], May 14: In a thrilling encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and chose to bowl first against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Thursday.

This match marks Bumrah's debut as captain for MI, stepping in for regular skipper Hardik Pandya, who is sidelined due to a back spasm. Additionally, Suryakumar Yadav is unavailable for this match due to personal commitments.

Punjab Kings are currently facing a challenging phase, having lost four matches in a row at a critical juncture of the season. After starting strong and leading the points table after seven games, their momentum has significantly waned.

On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians have had a lackluster season, managing only three victories out of 11 matches, which places them in ninth position on the leaderboard.

During the toss, Bumrah expressed, “We have decided to bowl first. Observing the last game, we felt that with the cooler weather, the pitch might settle down. I never imagined I would captain MI before leading in Tests (smiles). We have three games left, and we aim to enjoy and possibly disrupt a few teams. Surya is absent for personal reasons, and Allah is also not available.”

PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer commented, “We would have opted to bowl first as well. The pitch appears a bit drier, and we are uncertain about how it will play, so we are maintaining a positive outlook. We need to focus on being in good shape and having a positive mindset. Harpreet Brar, Xavier Bartlett, and Azmatullah Omarzai are included in our lineup.”
