Jasprit Bumrah Climbs IPL Wicket-Taking Rankings with Stellar Performance

Bumrah Surpasses Amit Mishra in IPL Wickets
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], May 2: In a remarkable achievement, Jasprit Bumrah, the fast bowler for Mumbai Indians (MI), has overtaken veteran spinner Amit Mishra to become the seventh-highest wicket-taker in Indian Premier League (IPL) history.
This milestone was reached during MI's match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Bumrah showcased his skills with an impressive bowling performance, taking 2 wickets for just 15 runs in four overs.
His efforts during the powerplay were crucial, as he provided relief to fellow pacers Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar by dismissing RR captain Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer. This pivotal over contributed significantly to RR's struggles, leading to their collapse.
Currently, Bumrah stands as MI's leading wicket-taker, with a total of 176 wickets in 140 matches, maintaining an average of 22.21 and an economy rate of 7.28, with his best bowling figures being 5 for 10. He has achieved two five-wicket hauls in his IPL career, surpassing Amit Mishra, who has 174 wickets from 162 matches at an average of 23.82.
Yuzvendra Chahal, who plays for Punjab Kings (PBKS), holds the record for the most wickets in IPL history, with 218 wickets in 170 matches, averaging 22.36 and an economy rate of 7.91, with best figures of 5 for 40.
In the ongoing IPL 2025 season, Bumrah has made a strong comeback from injury, claiming 11 wickets in seven matches at an average of 17.72 and an economy rate of 6.96, with his best figures being 4 for 22.
In the match against RR, MI opted to bowl first after RR chose to field. The decision quickly backfired as MI's openers, Ryan Rickelton (61 runs off 38 balls, including seven fours and three sixes) and Rohit Sharma (53 runs off 36 balls, with nine fours), put together a formidable partnership of 116 runs. Following their dismissals, Suryakumar Yadav (48 not out off 23 balls) and captain Hardik Pandya (48 not out off 23 balls) added 94 runs, propelling MI to a total of 217 for 2 in 20 overs. Maheesh Theekshana and Riyan Parag each took a wicket for RR.
During RR's chase, they struggled against MI's bowling attack, collapsing to 47 for 5 during the powerplay. Jofra Archer was the top scorer for RR with 30 runs off 27 balls, but the team was ultimately bowled out for 117 in just 16.1 overs, resulting in a 100-run defeat.
Karn Sharma (3 for 23) and Trent Boult (3 for 28) were the standout bowlers for MI, with Bumrah also contributing with his economical spell. Hardik Pandya added another wicket to his tally.
Ryan Rickelton was named 'Player of the Match' for his outstanding performance.
With this victory, MI leads the table with seven wins and four losses, totaling 14 points, while RR is at the bottom of the standings with three wins and eight losses, accumulating just six points.
