Ishan Kishan's Explosive 91 Leads Sunrisers Hyderabad to 216 Against Rajasthan Royals
Sunrisers Hyderabad Sets a Challenging Target
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], April 13: A spectacular innings of 91 runs from Ishan Kishan, along with valuable contributions from Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy, propelled Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a total of 216/6 in their 20 overs against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Monday.
To clinch their second victory of the tournament, SRH must now defend a target of 217 runs.
After being asked to bat first, SRH faced a rocky beginning as Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a golden duck while attempting to hit a short ball from Jofra Archer.
However, captain Ishan Kishan and Travis Head quickly turned the tide, with Ishan smashing two sixes and a four off Archer in the third over. SRH capitalized on the powerplay, scoring freely against the pace attack of Archer, Sandeep Sharma, and Nandre Burger, reaching 50 runs in just 5.5 overs.
By the end of the powerplay, SRH stood at 51/1, with Head (16*) and Kishan (35*) still at the crease.
Head's struggle continued as he lost his wicket to Riyan Parag, caught by Donovan Ferreira at long-on for a modest 18 runs, leaving SRH at 55/2 in 6.5 overs.
Undeterred, Ishan and Heinrich Klaasen kept the scoreboard ticking, each hitting a six against Ravi Bishnoi in the 10th over, bringing SRH to 89/2 at the halfway mark, with Kishan (56*) and Klaasen (14*) not out. Ishan reached his second fifty of the season in just 30 balls, featuring two fours and five sixes.
In the 11th over, Ishan unleashed a barrage against Tushar Despande, hitting three fours and a six, helping SRH cross the 100-run milestone in 10.3 overs. The pair had established a 50-run partnership in just 24 balls.
Klaasen also found his rhythm, hitting a six against Bishnoi and a boundary off Archer, who conceded 17 runs in the 13th over, with Ishan hitting a hat-trick of fours.
The 88-run partnership was finally broken when Sandeep Sharma executed a remarkable caught-and-bowled to dismiss Kishan for 91 runs off 44 balls, which included eight fours and six sixes, leaving SRH at 154/3 in 13.2 overs.
Klaasen soon followed Kishan, unable to elevate a lofted shot, caught by Parag at extra-cover for 40 runs off 26 balls, which included one four and three sixes. Deshpande claimed his first wicket, leaving SRH at 162/4 in 15.5 overs.
In the 17th over, Nitish Kumar Reddy took on Sandeep Sharma, hitting three sixes and a four, scoring 28 runs off just 13 balls before being dismissed by Archer. SRH reached 195/5 in 18.3 overs. Archer was hit for a massive six by Salil Arora, bringing the team to the 200-run mark in 19 overs.
Aniket Verma was run out for just six runs, leaving SRH at 209/6 in 19.4 overs. The innings concluded with SRH at 216/6, with Salil Arora remaining unbeaten on 24 runs off 13 balls, including two fours and two sixes, and Harsh Dubey on 0*.
For RR, Archer was the standout bowler with figures of 2/37, while Deshpande, Sandeep, and Riyan each took one wicket.
