Ishan Kishan Praises Young Bowlers After SRH's Victory Over CSK
SRH's Thrilling Win Against CSK
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], April 19: Following Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), captain Ishan Kishan expressed his delight over the impressive performance of his youthful bowling squad. However, he also emphasized the need for improved shot selection moving forward.
With notable contributions from Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen, the young pace bowlers Eshan Malinga, Sakib Hussain, Praful Hinge, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, along with spinner Shivang Kumar, successfully defended a total of 195 runs. Despite Praful conceding runs during the power play, the bowlers maintained pressure on CSK's batting lineup in the latter stages, ultimately leaving CSK just 10 runs shy of victory.
In the post-match interview, Ishan remarked, “It’s fantastic to see a group of young bowlers executing their strategies. Observing their progress in training, especially Praful, Sakib, and Shivang, gives me confidence in their abilities.”
He added, “I believe we fell short by 30-40 runs and must enhance our shot selection. We’re not focusing on the points table; our approach is to take it one game at a time and see where it leads us.”
Eshan, who was named Player of the Match for his pivotal wickets of CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Matt Short, and Sarfaraz Khan, shared insights during the presentation, stating, “We had a solid plan before the match, knowing the Hyderabad pitch tends to reverse after 10 overs. Ishan was curious about my bowling strategy, but I ultimately decide what to deliver at the crease. The reverse swing is crucial for me and my fellow bowlers; it’s an effective wicket-taking delivery.”
With this win, SRH has climbed to fourth place in the points table, boasting three victories and three defeats, while CSK sits in seventh place with two wins and four losses. CSK opted to bowl first, and half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma (59 runs off 22 balls, including six fours and four sixes) and Heinrich Klaasen (59 runs off 39 balls, with six fours and two sixes) propelled SRH to a total of 194/9.
During CSK's chase of 195, contributions from Ayush Mhatre (30 runs off 13 balls, with five fours and a six), Matthew Short (34 runs off 30 balls, with three fours), and Sarfaraz Khan (25 runs off 16 balls, with three fours) kept them in the game. However, the bowling efforts from Eshan (3/29), Nitish (2/31), Sakib Hussain (1/32), and Shivang Kumar (1/18) proved too much for CSK, resulting in a narrow defeat.
