Protests Anticipated as Iranian Team Arrives for World Cup

Los Angeles, USA - On June 16, protests are expected from the Iranian community in Los Angeles against both the Iranian government and the U.S. as the Iranian national football team prepares to play their opening match in the FIFA World Cup against New Zealand. This event occurs amidst ongoing tensions in West Asia, according to reports.

The Iranian squad landed in the U.S. on Sunday, greeted warmly by supporters at their training camp in Tijuana, Mexico. Their arrival coincided with the announcement of a potential agreement to resolve the U.S.-Iran conflict. Los Angeles is home to the largest Iranian population outside of Iran.

At one point, Iran's participation in the World Cup was uncertain due to the conflict that escalated in February with U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran.

Initially based in Arizona, the Iranian team relocated their training camp to Tijuana due to concerns over visa arrangements for entering the United States. This decision followed weeks of anxiety regarding whether the team members would secure the necessary travel documents.

Iran's opening match in Group G against New Zealand is set for June 15, followed by a game against Belgium on June 21, and concluding with a match against Egypt in Seattle on June 26. Despite U.S. authorities granting travel documents to the players, visa complications persisted, with reports indicating that several members of the Iranian delegation were still awaiting their visas, preventing parts of the support staff from traveling.
