The IPL governing council conveyed its heartfelt condolences on Tuesday regarding the sudden passing of Jan William Langford, a British broadcast engineer collaborating with the BCCI for the upcoming 2026 IPL season. They also pledged support to his grieving family.

Langford, aged 76, was discovered unresponsive in his hotel room in south Mumbai on Monday morning. Hotel staff promptly transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival, according to an official report.

In a statement, the IPL Governing Council expressed, “We extend our deepest sympathies on the unexpected loss of Mr. Ian Williams Langford, a devoted broadcast engineer who played a crucial role in our broadcasting efforts. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this challenging time.”

The IPL emphasized its commitment to offering all necessary assistance to Mr. Langford's family as they navigate this difficult period.

Furthermore, the IPL reiterated that the health, safety, and overall security of all individuals involved in the league's operations remain a top priority.

Langford was in Mumbai for his role as a broadcast engineer for IPL matches, as confirmed by an official.

According to a Marine Drive police station representative, the postmortem examination revealed no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

A case of unnatural death has been filed, and investigations are ongoing, the official added.
