IPL Faces Rain Challenges as Teams Prepare for Clash
Rain Disrupts IPL Matches
The Indian Premier League (IPL) encountered its first significant rain disruption on the third day of the tournament. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) arrived in Guwahati only to be greeted by rain on the day of their match. On Monday, March 30, both teams woke up to persistent rain that continued intermittently throughout the day, with forecasts indicating more rain ahead. Fortunately, the rain ceased just in time for the match to commence at the scheduled hour, although the toss was delayed. With 12 venues hosting games this season, it is anticipated that rain may affect additional matches throughout the tournament, which runs for the next two months. Such interruptions are more likely to occur in the latter half of the tournament leading up to the final on May 31.

What Happens If Rain Cancels an IPL 2026 Match, and Is There a Reserve Day?
If a match is canceled due to rain, both teams will receive one point each during the league stage. A no-result is declared if neither team bats for at least five overs in an inning. Importantly, there is no reserve day for any league stage matches. This rule also applies to the playoffs, where the first and second qualifiers, as well as the eliminator, will not have a reserve day. If rain prevents a result, the team that finished higher in the standings will progress to the next round. However, the final match will have a reserve day unless there are changes to the regulations this year. Historically, an IPL final has only been played on a reserve day once, during the 2023 season when CSK faced the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad. The original match day saw no play, but the following day, the game was shortened to 15 overs and became a thrilling last-ball finish, often hailed as one of the greatest finals in IPL history.
