While Varun Chakraborty is not really known for his fielding, he took a brilliant diving catch to send back Prithvi Shaw in the ongoing game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. Prithvi Shaw and his opening partner David Warner had no choice but to go ahead from the word go as KKR finished their innings on a mammoth total of 272/7. Prithvi Shaw hit Mitchell Starc for two fours in the first over of the chase. However, the right-handed batsman did not last long and had to depart in the very second over after an impressive catch by Varun Chakraborty. On the fourth ball of the over, bowled by Vaibhav Arora, the DC batter was bowled by the inswinger and was appealed for lbw against Prithvi Shaw.
And on the very second ball, the out-of-favour Indian opener had to return to the dressing room. Prithvi Shaw miscued his shot towards mid-on against a delivery that arrived at the last moment. Initially, it looked like the ball would fall in front of Varun Chakraborty. However, the KKR spinner made a timely dive and caught the ball just inches above the surface.

Prithvi Shaw was dismissed for 10 runs in seven balls. The right-handed batsman did not get a chance in the playing eleven for the first two games of the season before DC recalled him after losing both the games. In his first game of IPL 2024, he played a brilliant innings of 43 runs to help DC beat Chennai Super Kings and clinch the tournament. Talking about the ongoing game, a whirlwind knock from Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi helped KKR post 272/7, their highest ever IPL score. Narine scored 85 runs off 39 balls while 18-year-old Raghuvanshi scored 54 runs off just 27 balls. Andre Russell (41 off 19 balls) and Rinku Singh (26 off 8 balls) also played important knocks for the two-time IPL winners.
