IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant Cites Distraction from Crowd and Technical Glitch for DRS Mistake against KKR
Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant was disappointed in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He admitted that he was beaten by opponents and needed to reflect better. as a team. It was the third defeat for Rishabh Pant's side as they languished in the bottom half of the table.
It was a poor game with both bat and ball for Delhi Capitals as they were not allowed to take charge of the game by KKR. Sunil Narine's 85 off just 39 balls put the bowlers under pressure right from the start and they couldn't control things after that. Debutant Angkrish Raghuvanshi was not far behind as he impressed many with his half-century. Before Andre Russell (41) and Rinku Singh (26) finished the innings on a high. Based on a brutal effort with the bat, Kolkata Knight Riders scored a total of 272 runs. Vaibhav Arora and Mitchell Starc got KKR off to a great start as Delhi Capitals struggled to get going with the bat as they claimed 4 quick wickets. Rishabh Pant (55) and Tristan Stubbs (54) scored fifties but it was not enough as they were bowled out for just 166 runs.
Rishabh Pant admitted he was all over the place and could have done better with the ball. He revealed his message to his team after the first innings and while speaking to broadcasters explained:
“We were all over the place (with the ball), we could have done better, and it's just one of those days I think. As a batting unit, we talked about going hard (after the target) and that's how we approach these games because it's better to try to score a total than not to chase it."
Rishabh Pant also spoke about the non-DRS moments, saying that mistakes on screen lead to mistakes. During the 4th over of the innings, the keeper-batsman opted for DRS against Narine but the umpires disallowed it as he was running late. “It was quite loud (place) and couldn't see the timer on the screen (talking about non-DRS moments) and there was some problem with the screen too, there are some things you can control and some you can't. Take control, you just need to go with the flow," he said.
