With just three weeks to go for the 2024 T20 World Cup, South Africa face an injury scare as fast bowler Kagiso Rabada suffered a lower extremity soft tissue infection ending his IPL season prematurely. Rabada represented the Punjab Kings in IPL 2024, taking 11 wickets in as many matches at an economy of 8.85 and left for South Africa on Sunday evening. However, his departure will not affect PBKS' campaign as they are already out of the playoffs race with two matches to spare. They face Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday and play their last league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 19.

"The 28-year-old sought specialist advice on arrival in South Africa and is being closely monitored by Cricket South Africa's medical team," Cricket South Africa (CSA) said in a statement. The CSA also said the injury is unlikely to affect Rabada's preparations for the T20 World Cup in America next month.
