Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Harry Brook lived up to his mega price tag with a brilliant century against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Friday. With 100 not out, Brook became the first centurion of the 2023 Indian Premier League. The talented 24-year-old batsman tore apart the KKR pacers all around the park and brought up his maiden IPL century in the final over as SRH posted a massive 228/4 in 20 overs.
It was a classy innings from the English batsmen as his 55-ball 12 fours and three sixes dismantled the KKR bowling attack. He started the innings with a bang by hitting Umesh Yadav for a boundary and continued to attack the KKR bowlers in the powerplay. The 24-year-old slowed down a bit when the spinners came in but stepped on the accelerator at the right time to become the first centurion of the season.
He became the third SRH batsman after David Warner and Jonny Bairstow to score a century in the Indian Premier League.SRH signed him for INR 13.25 crore but he failed to score big in the first three matches of the season but was at his best on Friday and put SRH on top against the hosts.He was dropped by Suyyash Sharma for 45 runs and took full advantage to announce his arrival in the IPL.Brooke also overturned a catch-bound decision off Lockie Ferguson when he hit the Kiwi flamboyant pacer for five fours in a single over en route to his first century of the season, which came off Umesh Yadav in the final over. “I struggled a bit with the spin, but I wanted to use the powerplay to my advantage. So the middle overs wanted to rotate the strike and let the other guys do the hitting. He is a belter of a pitch, we need to bowl our length properly and take wickets. We still have a job to do. My girlfriend is here but the rest of my family has just gone, I'm sure they will all be very happy for me,” Brook said after scoring his maiden IPL century.
