Heinrich Klaasen Unfazed by Past Struggles Against CSK Ahead of Derby Clash
Klaasen Prepares for High-Stakes Match Against CSK
New Delhi [India] - As the highly anticipated derby against the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) approaches, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen expressed confidence despite his underwhelming performance history against the Men in Yellow. He noted that his aggressive approach against their spinners has not yielded the desired results.
The match is scheduled for April 18, coinciding with the competition's 'Rivalry Week', which kicks off on April 12. Klaasen's record against CSK has been less than stellar, with only 61 runs in five innings, averaging 15.25, and a top score of just 20. His strike rate against CSK stands at a modest 96.82.
In their first encounter this season at Hyderabad, Klaasen managed to score 10* in his only innings. At CSK's renowned Chepauk ground, he has accumulated a mere 44 runs over three innings.
Responding to a question from a media outlet at the 'JioStar Press Room' before the 'Rivalry Week', Klaasen remarked that playing in Chennai poses challenges for batters.
“Chennai is not the easiest venue for batting, especially with what I refer to as the 'Jadeja wicket', where bowlers can deliver at 100 kilometers per hour, and the ball either spins or holds its line. Fortunately, he is not part of the team this season (having been traded to Rajasthan Royals), so it will be a different challenge,” he explained.
Klaasen emphasized the importance of hitting the ball further and clearing the boundary. He stated, “It’s crucial for me to give myself the chance to make a significant impact. When facing a team with numerous spinners, especially in their home conditions, taking risks is necessary, even if it hasn’t worked out for me yet. I’m not overly concerned; it’s about finding my rhythm. Once I do, I aim to maintain that form,” he added.
This season, Klaasen has no reason for concern, having started strong with 145 runs in the first three matches, averaging 48.33 with a strike rate of 147.95, including two fifties and a top score of 62. He currently leads SRH in runs and ranks third overall in the league.
