Boston [US], June 19: After leading his team to a 4-2 victory over Croatia in their opening match of the FIFA World Cup, England's captain Harry Kane expressed that he was motivated by the remarkable performances of Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland. Messi achieved his first World Cup hat-trick against Algeria, while Haaland netted two goals in his debut match.

Kane himself scored two goals during the match held in Dallas on Thursday. Reflecting on his performance, he stated, “I noticed the goals scored by those players, and while I try not to focus too much on others, it’s only natural for an athlete to aspire to reach such heights. Clearly, they all started their campaigns impressively.”

He emphasized the enthusiasm and determination within the team, suggesting that this could be a memorable summer for England football. “You can feel the eagerness and excitement among the players to be part of what might turn out to be a remarkable summer,” Kane remarked.

He also noted the healthy competition for positions within the squad, highlighting that it fosters a positive atmosphere focused on performance. “There’s genuine competition, but it’s all about a collective aim to deliver when needed,” he added.

In the match against Croatia, Kane earned his 115th international cap, matching the record of England legend David Beckham. He shared that Beckham reached out to him with a congratulatory message. “David sent me a lovely voice note both before and after the match, congratulating me on reaching 115 caps. He understands the dedication required to achieve such consistency,” Kane concluded.
