Gujarat Titans Triumph in IPL Clash

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], April 30: Shubman Gill, the captain of Gujarat Titans (GT), expressed his contentment following the team's four-wicket victory against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during their IPL 2026 encounter on Thursday in Ahmedabad. He commended the GT bowlers for their exceptional performance, which limited RCB to a modest total of 155 runs in their innings, making the chase easier for the home side.

In pursuit of 156 runs, GT achieved their target comfortably in just 15.4 overs, thanks to explosive innings from Shubman Gill (43 runs off 18 balls) and Jos Buttler (39 runs off 19 balls). Rahul Tewatia (27 not out) and Rashid Khan played crucial roles in steering the team to victory after a few middle-order wickets fell. Earlier, GT's bowlers excelled in restricting RCB to 155 runs in 19.2 overs, with Arshad Khan leading the charge with figures of 3/22, supported by Rashid Khan (2/19) and Jason Holder (2/29).

With this win, GT now occupies the fifth position in the IPL points table, having secured five victories out of nine matches, totaling 10 points.

During the post-match presentation, Shubman Gill expressed his satisfaction with the win, attributing the success to the bowlers for keeping the opposition below 160 runs on a batting-friendly pitch.

Reflecting on his performance, Gill stated he felt 'in the zone' and was eager to take on the bowlers. He praised Rahul Tewatia for his finishing skills, acknowledging that the team lost more wickets than anticipated but benefited from contributions throughout the batting order.

"It feels very satisfying. On a pitch like this, restricting them to under 160 was a remarkable effort by the bowlers. Our fielding has been inconsistent at times, but the energy in the field was commendable. Regarding my batting, I felt it was my day and wanted to challenge the bowlers. Tewatia is a vital player for us, and I'm glad he finished the game. We lost a couple more wickets than we would have liked, but everyone contributed," Gill remarked.

Jason Holder was awarded Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance of 2/19 in four overs, along with three crucial catches, dismissing Rajat Patidar, Tim David, and Krunal Pandya.

Patidar's dismissal was particularly noteworthy. After a short delivery from Arshad Khan, Patidar attempted a pull shot but ended up top-edging the ball towards deep backward square leg. Holder dashed to his right and executed a sharp low catch, despite Kagiso Rabada also pursuing the ball.

Although RCB players contested the decision, arguing that Holder may not have had full control and that the ball might have touched the ground, the umpires upheld the dismissal.

Jason Holder expressed his satisfaction with his performance and credited the team's strong energy throughout the match.

Regarding his catch to dismiss Patidar, Holder acknowledged the presence of Rabada but felt confident in going for the catch. He mentioned that he embraces challenges and is happy to contribute to the team's success.

"I'm pleased with how things went for me personally. Our energy was excellent from the start. I did see Rabada and hoped not to collide with him. He was in my peripheral vision, but I felt confident enough to attempt the catch. I welcome whatever comes my way and am glad to hold onto the chances. I'm happy to contribute and help the team secure the win," he stated during the post-match presentations.
