Gujarat Titans Triumph in Nail-Biting Finish

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India] - On May 4, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill reflected on the challenging chase against Punjab Kings (PBKS), emphasizing the need for patience over aggression.

Thanks to a remarkable four-wicket performance by Jason Holder and solid contributions from Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar, GT clinched a thrilling four-wicket victory at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

Gill noted that the team understood the pitch would not facilitate a rapid finish, prompting them to focus on gradually building their innings and extending the game.

He pointed out that newcomers faced difficulties on this surface, making it crucial for established players to guide the chase to its conclusion. Gill also mentioned that the conditions did not provide many scoring opportunities from length balls, unlike other grounds.

“In chases like these, we would have preferred not to take it as deep as we did, but securing those two points was vital. This pitch isn’t one where we can chase down totals in 15-16 overs. We discussed the need to finish a bit earlier if possible. If a batsman is set, they should aim to go deep since it’s tough to score from the first ball. Length balls weren’t as easy to hit as on other pitches. Thankfully, Washi was there to finish the game for us,” Gill stated post-match.

With this victory, GT now holds the sixth position in the standings with six wins and four losses, totaling 12 points. Meanwhile, PBKS remains at the top with six wins, two losses, and one no result, accumulating 13 points.

GT chose to bowl first, and a crucial 79-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Marcus Stoinis (40 runs off 31 balls, including five fours and a six) and Suryansh Shedge (57 runs off 29 balls, featuring three fours and five sixes) propelled PBKS to a total of 163/9 in their 20 overs, with Holder's impressive figures of 4/24 causing significant trouble for the PBKS batsmen.

During the chase, PBKS fought hard, but contributions from Sai Sudharsan (57 runs off 41 balls, with five fours and a six) and Washington Sundar (40* runs off 23 balls, including five fours and a six) led GT to victory with just one ball remaining.
