Thrilling Match Summary

New Delhi [India] - April 9: Shubman Gill, the captain of Gujarat Titans (GT), expressed his delight after his team clinched a dramatic one-run victory against Delhi Capitals (DC) during their IPL 2026 encounter on Wednesday.

GT set a formidable target of 210 runs, thanks to impressive half-centuries from Shubman Gill (70), Washington Sundar (55), and Jos Buttler (52). On the bowling front, Rashid Khan (3/17) and Prasidh Krishna (2/52) were instrumental in restricting DC.

In response, DC's innings was spearheaded by KL Rahul's outstanding 92 and a quick-fire 41* from David Miller. However, they fell just short of the target. Needing two runs off the last two balls, Miller opted not to take a single and subsequently missed the final delivery, leading to Kuldeep Yadav's run-out on the last ball, leaving DC at 209/8.

Post-match, Gill remarked, "I’m very pleased to have secured the win. Regarding Miller's decision not to run on the fifth ball, we felt we had a chance to clinch it. Before the last ball, we discussed whether to bowl a yorker or a slower delivery. We decided on the slower one, as it would be tough to hit for a boundary given the pitch conditions," during the post-match presentation.

Gill acknowledged that while some runs were lost due to fielding lapses, every effort was crucial in such a tightly contested match. He noted that on a sluggish pitch, scoring 210 was above par, and they were confident in their disciplined bowling to secure the win.

"Despite a few overthrows and boundaries I conceded, those 5-6 runs can make a significant difference in a close game like this. We believed that 210 was 10-15 runs above par on this wicket. Even during our death overs, hitting big boundaries was challenging due to the pitch's slowness. We were confident that if we bowled well, we could win this match," Gill added.

With this victory, GT now sits sixth in the IPL 2026 points table, accumulating two points from three matches with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.270. Meanwhile, DC holds the fourth position with four points from three matches and an NRR of +0.811.
