Gujarat Titans' Sai Sudharsan Breaks T20 Record in Thrilling Match Against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Record-Breaking Performances in Ahmedabad

In a thrilling encounter in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Titans made headlines as Sai Sudharsan surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest player to reach 2000 runs in T20 cricket. Meanwhile, Jos Buttler also marked a milestone by scoring his 4000th run in the IPL.

After being invited to bat first, Gujarat Titans showcased an explosive batting display. Sudharsan, alongside captain Shubman Gill, set the stage with an impressive 87-run opening partnership.

The young left-hander Sudharsan exhibited his boundary-hitting skills, scoring 48 runs off just 23 balls. His remarkable achievement of reaching 2000 runs in T20s came in his 54th innings, breaking Sachin's previous record of 59 innings. He now stands as the second-fastest to this milestone, trailing only behind Shaun Marsh, who achieved it in 53 innings.

After Sudharsan's explosive innings ended, Buttler entered the fray and continued the assault on the Sunrisers' bowling attack. He scored a quickfire 64 runs off 37 balls, reaching the 4000-run mark in the IPL. Buttler accomplished this feat in 2,677 balls, making him the third-fastest player to do so, following Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers.

The trio of Gill, Sudharsan, and Buttler laid a solid foundation for Gujarat's total, while Hyderabad's strategy of using short balls backfired due to poor execution.

Harshal Patel, who seemed well-suited for the pitch conditions, unfortunately, fell victim to the same fate as his teammates.

During the break, Sudharsan shared his thoughts on the pitch, stating, 'The wicket was a bit difficult. It was a bit slow and kept low when we started playing. The way Shubi and I showed the intent, the first six overs were really good, and that’s why we were able to put a good score out there.'

He further explained his batting approach, saying, 'I am trying to time the ball rather than hitting and smacking the ball. I think the touch is really good, so I’m able to get the results.'
