Local Talents Poised for Success

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India] - In anticipation of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Saturday, Gujarat Titans (GT) assistant coach Parthiv Patel expressed optimism about the contributions of local players Ashok Sharma and Manav Suthar, who are expected to leverage their familiarity with home conditions.

During a pre-match press briefing, Patel commended pacer Ashok Sharma, labeling him as a promising talent who has excelled not only in the IPL but also in domestic competitions like the Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare Trophy. He emphasized that local players often benefit from their understanding of the playing conditions, highlighting Ashok as a significant prospect for the future.

At just 23 years old, Ashok has participated in six matches for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026, securing six wickets. In the recent Ranji Trophy season, he achieved 14 wickets across seven matches with an average of 29.71.

“Ashok Sharma is an exceptional bowler. His performances in the IPL and domestic tournaments have been impressive. Local players have an edge due to their familiarity with the game, making him a strong future prospect,” Patel remarked.

Patel also praised left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, noting his consistent performances for India A and his maturity as a player. He acknowledged Suthar's leadership in domestic cricket and his ability to seize opportunities through his strong performances.

In the 2025/26 Ranji Trophy season, Suthar took 18 wickets in just five innings, averaging an impressive 15.94.

Patel pointed out that several local players, including Kulwant Khejroliya, are part of the team, reinforcing the advantage of being familiar with home conditions.

“Manav has been a consistent performer and has led Rajasthan effectively. We have observed many of his matches in the Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His experience is invaluable, and with several local players in the mix, familiarity with the home ground is crucial,” Patel added.

He described the upcoming match as critical, noting the tight competition on the points table, with only the top team having played an additional game. While acknowledging Rajasthan's strong performance, Patel emphasized the need for his team to execute their strategies effectively to secure a victory.

“This is undoubtedly an important game, as many teams are closely matched in points. With one team at the top having played an extra match, it’s crucial for us to focus on our plans and aim for a win,” Patel stated.

The Gujarat Titans, currently positioned fifth in the IPL standings, will face the fourth-placed Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Both teams have played ten matches, achieving six victories each, with net run rate being the only differentiator. The winner of this match will move closer to solidifying a spot in the top four.
