Gujarat Titans Fall Short Against RCB in IPL Qualifier 1
Gujarat Titans' Struggles in IPL Qualifier 1
Dharamsala (Himachal Pradesh) [India] - Shubman Gill expressed that the Gujarat Titans were unable to capitalize on the Powerplay, leading to a significant 92-run loss against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday.
Gill noted that the pitch conditions were ideal for batting, suggesting that a strong start could have made the challenging chase more feasible.
A brilliant bowling performance from the pacers, coupled with an outstanding innings from captain Rajat Patidar, propelled the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their second consecutive IPL final, defeating the Gujarat Titans by 92 runs.
“It’s crucial to secure a solid start. A good Powerplay on a ground like this, where the ball travels well and the outfield is quick, could have made any target achievable,” Gill remarked after the match.
He also mentioned that he was not taken aback by the pitch's behavior. Gill felt that the Titans were in a favorable position until around the 12th or 13th over during their bowling innings but highlighted that poor fielding, including missed catches, hindered their momentum and led to their defeat.
“I wasn’t really surprised by the pitch. We were doing well until the 12th or 13th over, but our fielding was subpar, with a couple of dropped catches and inadequate ground fielding,” he added.
With this victory, RCB aims for their second consecutive IPL title. Meanwhile, the Titans will have another opportunity to secure a final spot as they face the winner of the eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 on Friday.
RCB posted an impressive total of 254/5, thanks to explosive performances from Rajat Patidar (93* off 33 balls, including five fours and nine sixes), Virat Kohli (43 off 25 balls, with five fours and a six), and Krunal Pandya (43 off 28 balls, featuring five fours and two sixes).
In their chase, the Titans' batting lineup collapsed, with only Rahul Tewatia (68 off 43 balls, with eight fours and four sixes) and Jos Buttler (29 off 11 balls, with three fours and two sixes) managing to score over 20 runs, as they were bowled out for 162.
Jacob Duffy (3/39) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/28) dismantled the Titans' top order, leading to a swift decline for the team.
