Gujarat Titans Dominate Punjab Kings in IPL 2026 Clash
Gujarat Titans Secure Victory Against Punjab Kings
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], May 3: In a thrilling encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the Gujarat Titans (GT) showcased their bowling prowess, restricting the Punjab Kings (PBKS) to a mere 163 runs for 9 wickets in their IPL 2026 match on Sunday. Key performances came from Jason Holder, Kagiso Rabada, and Mohammed Siraj, with Holder claiming four wickets to lead the charge.
Despite a solid 79-run partnership between Marcus Stoinis and Suryansh Shedge, PBKS struggled to find momentum, marking their lowest first-innings score of the season. Gujarat's captain, Shubman Gill, won the toss and opted to bowl first, a decision that paid off immediately as Siraj dismantled the PBKS batting order.
Mohammed Siraj delivered an exceptional performance, taking 2 wickets for 28 runs in 4 overs. He struck early, dismissing Priyansh Arya for just 2 runs and then sending Cooper Connolly back for a golden duck, leaving PBKS reeling at 2 for 2.
As the innings progressed, Shreyas Iyer (19 off 21 balls) and Prabhsimran Singh (15 off 14 balls) attempted to stabilize the innings but fell victim to the relentless pressure from the GT bowlers. Rabada's breakthrough in the sixth over ended their 33-run partnership, leaving PBKS at 35 for 3 after the Powerplay.
Jason Holder's introduction further compounded PBKS's troubles, as he dismissed Nehal Wadhera for a duck, leaving the visitors in dire straits at 36 for 4. Iyer's dismissal in the ninth over effectively dashed PBKS's hopes of a competitive total, with the team struggling at 51 for 5 after 10 overs.
By the 12th over, PBKS was in deep trouble at 66 for 5, seemingly on track for a sub-100 total. However, Suryansh Shedge (57 runs off 29 balls) and Marcus Stoinis mounted a spirited recovery, putting together a 79-run partnership off just 44 balls. Shedge's explosive batting, which included three sixes and two fours in one over, briefly reignited hope for PBKS.
Despite Shedge's aggressive knock, his dismissal in the 16th over to Rabada shifted the momentum back to GT, with PBKS at 126 for 6. Holder continued to wreak havoc, taking two wickets in the 18th over, leaving PBKS at 141 for 8. He concluded his spell with remarkable figures of 4 for 24 in 4 overs.
Marco Jansen added a quickfire 20 runs off 11 balls, helping PBKS finish their innings at 163 for 9 in 20 overs.
