Gujarat Titans Dominate Sunrisers Hyderabad

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India] - May 13: The Gujarat Titans have ascended to the pinnacle of the IPL 2026 standings following a commanding 82-run victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

During an appearance on Star Sports' 'Amul Cricket Live', all-rounder Washington Sundar shared insights about the team's impressive consistency, his collaboration with Sai Sudharsan, and the Titans' aspirations for the title as the playoff race intensifies.

Reflecting on their fifth consecutive win this season, Sundar remarked, "This victory is significant. The competition has been fierce, with every team giving their best against us. Achieving five straight wins highlights our consistency as a team. However, maintaining our successful strategies can be challenging. It's easy to lose focus by overcomplicating things, but we've managed to stay on track. The team's clarity and consistency deserve commendation."

The 26-year-old contributed 50 runs off 33 deliveries, including seven fours and a six, helping GT set a total of 168/5 after batting first in Ahmedabad. He formed a crucial 60-run partnership for the fourth wicket with opener Sai Sudharsan, who scored 61 runs off 44 balls.

Discussing his partnership with Sudharsan, he stated, "Batting with Sai is always a pleasure as we communicate effectively on the field. It was crucial for me to gauge both the match situation and the pitch conditions, which were slightly more challenging than usual. Initially, I struggled to find boundaries, while Sai managed to score without taking excessive risks. This balance was key to our partnership's success."

In their bowling effort, Mohammed Siraj (1/11 in three overs) set the tone by dismissing Travis Head for a duck. Kagiso Rabada (3/28 in four overs) dismantled the top order, taking out Abhishek Sharma (6), Ishan Kishan (11), and Smaran Ravichandran (9), leaving SRH at a precarious 32/4 in just 5.5 overs.

Later, Jason Holder (3/20 in four overs) and Prasidh Krishna (2/23 in three overs) wrapped up SRH's innings for a mere 86 runs, with skipper Cummins (19) being the highest scorer for his team. Rabada earned the 'Player of the Match' title for his outstanding performance during the powerplay.

Looking ahead, Sundar emphasized the importance of staying focused and recognizing what has worked for them thus far. "We've been playing excellent cricket, but there's still a long journey ahead in the tournament. We aim to maintain this momentum and ultimately secure the championship," he added.

With eight victories and four defeats, GT leads the table with 16 points, while SRH has fallen to third place with seven wins and five losses, totaling 14 points.
