Gujarat Titans Claim First IPL Victory Against Mumbai Indians
Gujarat Titans Triumph Over Mumbai Indians
In Ahmedabad, Gujarat, the Gujarat Titans (GT) achieved their inaugural win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season, defeating the Mumbai Indians (MI) by 36 runs, largely due to a stellar bowling display from Prasidh Krishna. The fast bowler was instrumental in limiting MI's batting strength, concluding his four overs with impressive figures of 2/18. His performance included the pivotal dismissals of Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav, which shifted the momentum in favor of Gujarat.
Krishna, who earned the Player of the Match accolade, shared his feelings after receiving this honor for the first time in the IPL.
“I’m at a loss for words right now. During the tenth over, I realized I had been waiting a long time to bowl in a T20 match, but it all worked out in the end. We observed how the first innings unfolded. The cutters were effective on this pitch, and my strategy was to utilize those lengths. I noticed it was working, so I decided not to focus on the speed gun (smiles). I aimed to keep it straightforward; every delivery was crucial,” Krishna stated, as reported by a sports media outlet.
His disciplined bowling and adaptability to the pitch conditions were crucial for Gujarat, who rebounded strongly after a challenging start to their season.
In the match, MI won the toss and chose to bowl first. GT's opening pair, Shubman Gill (38 runs off 27 balls, including four boundaries and a six) and Sai Sudarshan, provided a solid foundation with a partnership of 78 runs. Another significant partnership developed between Sudarshan and Jos Buttler (39 runs off 24 balls, with five fours and a six). Sudarshan delivered a commendable performance, scoring 63 runs off 41 balls, featuring four boundaries and two sixes. However, after reaching 179/4, GT faced a mini-collapse, finishing at 196/8 after 20 overs.
For MI, skipper Hardik Pandya (2/29) was the standout bowler, while Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, Mujeeb ur Rahman, and Satyanarayana Raju each claimed a wicket.
In their pursuit of 197 runs, MI lost early wickets, including Rohit Sharma (8) and Ryan Rickelton. Nevertheless, Tilak Varma (39 runs off 36 balls, with three fours and a six) and Suryakumar Yadav (48 runs off 28 balls, with a four and four sixes) attempted to stabilize the innings with a partnership of 62 runs. After their dismissals, MI struggled to recover, concluding their innings at 160/6 in 20 overs.
Prasidh Krishna (2/18) and Mohammed Siraj (2/34) were the leading bowlers for GT, with Kagiso Rabada and Sai Kishore also contributing with a wicket each.
