Maxwell Faces Penalty for Code Violation

New Delhi [India], April 9 (Media House): Glenn Maxwell, an all-rounder for Punjab Kings, has been penalized 25% of his match fees and received a demerit point following a breach of the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Chennai Super Kings at the New PCA Stadium on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the IPL confirmed that Maxwell acknowledged the Level 1 offense, leading to the financial penalty and the demerit point. The match referee's ruling is conclusive for Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct.

According to the IPL's statement, "Glenn Maxwell, all-rounder for Punjab Kings, has been fined 25% of his match fees and has also received one demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during his team's match against Chennai Super Kings at the New PCA Stadium, New Chandigarh, on Tuesday."

Maxwell admitted to the Level 1 offense under article 2.2, which pertains to the abuse of fixtures and fittings during the match, and accepted the sanction imposed by the Match Referee.

Despite being acquired by Punjab for Rs 4.2 crore, Maxwell has struggled with his batting performance in this season of the lucrative league. He was dismissed quickly, scoring just 1 run off 2 balls, and has only accumulated 31 runs across four matches this season.

While his batting has been disappointing, Maxwell has excelled with his off-spin bowling. In the match against Super Kings, he delivered an economical performance, taking 1 wicket for just 11 runs in two overs. Overall, he has claimed three wickets in four matches for Punjab Kings.

Even with Maxwell's struggles, Priyansh Arya led Punjab to a formidable total of 219/6 with his first IPL century. Arya's explosive 39-ball century was complemented by impressive innings from Shashank Singh (52*) and Marco Jansen (34*). In response, despite a strong start from Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra, CSK fell short by 18 runs.
