Gaur Gorakhpur Lions Prepare for UPT20 League

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 30: Vishesh Gaur, the owner of Gaur Gorakhpur Lions, is optimistic about his team's chances in the upcoming fourth edition of the UPT20 League. He believes that the franchise has put together a well-rounded squad that is ready to compete effectively this season. With the tournament kicking off in just two weeks, Gaur emphasized the significance of seasoned players in mentoring younger talents, as stated in a recent press release.

As excitement builds for the league's fourth edition, all franchises are finalizing their rosters for the new season.

Gaur expressed satisfaction with the team's composition, stating, “We are pleased with our squad. We have secured most of the players we aimed for and have created a balanced team that we are happy with.”

He confirmed that Aryan Juyal will take on the role of captain, with Shivam Sharma serving as vice-captain.

“Aryan Juyal will lead the team this season, while Shivam Sharma will be his deputy. Ankit Rajpoot has joined us as head coach, and we have confidence in our leadership team,” he added.

The Lions invested INR 21 lakh to acquire Shivam Chaudhary during the player auction. Gaur explained this decision by saying, “We aimed to bolster our opening batting, which was a crucial area to address after the retentions. Shivam Chaudhary was our top choice due to his quality as an opening batter, his leadership experience, and his ability to provide stability at the top.”

He also commended the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) for its ongoing efforts to enhance the league and expand its reach by hosting matches in two cities this season.

“The league is evolving each year, and UPCA deserves recognition for its commitment to elevating it. Hosting matches in two cities is a significant advancement. It requires more effort and investment, but it will help the league connect with a broader audience. Few state leagues are undertaking such initiatives, showcasing UPCA's dedication to growing the tournament,” he remarked.

Gaur expressed gratitude to BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla and UPT20 League Governing Council Chairman Dr. Sanjay Kapoor for their contributions to the league's success and for providing a platform for emerging cricketers in Uttar Pradesh.

“I want to thank Rajeev Shukla and Dr. Sanjay Kapoor for their vision and relentless efforts in making the UPT20 League a success. The league has expanded with each season, becoming an excellent platform for young cricketers to display their skills and advance their careers,” he stated.

He added that having experienced players in the dressing room will significantly benefit young cricketers.

“Being in the same dressing room as players who have represented India or played in the IPL serves as a tremendous source of motivation for youngsters. They can closely observe how seasoned professionals prepare, train, and manage pressure, which instills confidence that they can achieve similar dreams,” he noted.

The opening ceremony and the initial phase of the tournament will take place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The league will then transition to Green Park Stadium in Kanpur for the second phase, which includes the playoffs and the final.

Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator are scheduled for September 3, followed by Qualifier 2 on September 4. The final and closing ceremony will occur in Kanpur on September 6.

This 24-day tournament will feature 34 matches, comprising 13 double-headers and eight single-header matchdays, showcasing the finest cricketing talent from Uttar Pradesh competing for the championship.
