Macron expressed his appreciation to FIFA President Gianni Infantino for supporting France's request for this tribute. The attack occurred on July 14, 2016, when a truck drove into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, resulting in the deaths of at least 86 individuals, including children, and injuring over 430 others. The assailant was shot dead by law enforcement.

Macron shared on social media, "Before the France-Spain match, a minute of silence will be observed in homage to the victims of the Nice attack, ten years after July 14, 2016.
