Ducati Enters Indian Supercross Racing League with New Franchise
Ducati's Competitive Debut in ISRL
Pune (Maharashtra) [India], October 29: Ducati is poised to make its first competitive appearance in the Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL) during its third season. This initiative comes from a collaboration between sports entrepreneur Punit Balan and motorsport expert Pranav Bakre, who are launching a franchise called PBG Ducati Legacy Racing.
Bakre will serve as co-owner alongside Balan, and the team will showcase Ducati's off-road motorcycles, including the Desmo450 MX, which was revealed in India at the conclusion of the last season in Calicut. Additionally, they plan to introduce the yet-to-be-unveiled Desmo250 MX.
This development signifies a significant move for Ducati as it transitions from merely showcasing its motocross program to actively supporting a competitive team in the racing arena.
Bipul Chandra, Managing Director of Ducati India, expressed the company's dedication to this partnership, viewing the ISRL as a vital platform for enhancing its presence in the off-road motorsport sector within India.
Ducati's involvement further enriches the league, which has seen a growing number of automotive manufacturers aligning with various franchises.
Punit Balan, who leads the Punit Balan Group, has diverse investments in multiple sports. His collaboration with Bakre merges franchise ownership with expertise in superbikes and performance motorsport.
In discussing the new venture, Balan emphasized the team's commitment to establishing a competitive franchise while nurturing young talent.
Bakre highlighted that the franchise's strategy will prioritize race preparation, machinery, and comprehensive team support for the upcoming season.
Eeshan Lokhande, co-founder and Director of ISRL, noted that Ducati will be the third prominent automotive brand to join the league, indicating a rising interest from the industry in this competition.
As one of the largest two-wheeler markets globally, India still sees professional off-road motorcycle racing as an emerging field. The entry of established manufacturers and private investors could significantly enhance the sport's visibility and provide Indian riders with opportunities to compete with top-tier machinery on an international level.
PBG Ducati Legacy Racing is now gearing up for the third season of the ISRL, although details regarding its rider lineup and competitive strategies have yet to be disclosed.
