Dewald Brevis Injured Ahead of IPL 2026 Opener
Guwahati, Assam - Star player Dewald Brevis will not participate in the Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on March 30 due to an injury, as reported by a sports news outlet.
CSK's head coach, Stephen Fleming, confirmed this news just before the match. Brevis' absence adds to the team's challenges, as they are already missing Nathan Ellis, who has been ruled out for the entire tournament due to injury. Additionally, veteran wicketkeeper MS Dhoni is expected to be sidelined for the first couple of weeks due to a calf strain.
Furthermore, CSK is anticipating the arrival of Australian fast bowler Spencer Johnson, who has stepped in for the injured Ellis. Johnson is expected to join the team between April 21 and 23.
The season opener for CSK is set for March 30 against the 2008 champions, Rajasthan Royals, in Guwahati. Notably, former RR player Sanju Samson has joined CSK, while legendary Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja returns to RR after a trade prior to the auction.
This trade also saw English all-rounder Sam Curran move from CSK to RR, but he will also miss the tournament due to injury.
Chennai Super Kings' complete squad for IPL 2026 includes: Anshul Kamboj, Gurjapneet Singh, Jamie Overton, MS Dhoni, Mukesh Choudhary, Spencer Johnson, Noor Ahmad, Ramakrishna Ghosh, Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, Shreyas Gopal, Syed Khaleel Ahmed, Ayush Mhatre, Dewald Brevis, Urvil Patel, Sarfaraz Khan, Kartik Sharma, Prashant Veer, Matthew Short, Aman Khan, Zak Foulkes, Akeal Hosein, Rahul Chahar, and Matt Henry.
