Brevis Celebrates Return to Competitive Cricket

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India] - April 15: Dewald Brevis, a batter for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), expressed his excitement about returning to competitive cricket after recovering from an injury. He felt strong and relished the experience of being back on the field during CSK's 32-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2026.

In an interview on JioHotstar following the match, Brevis shared his enjoyment of the atmosphere and the chance to acclimate to the conditions while spending time in the middle.

Having been sidelined due to a side strain, the right-handed batter noted that his return has significantly boosted his confidence and rhythm in the tournament.

"It was a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed it. Playing in front of the crowd was very special. Spending time getting to know the wicket was important. It felt different from the previous match, but it was a great experience. I loved diving around on the field, swinging the bat, and just getting a feel for the game. Being out with a side strain was tough, but now I feel strong, and I’m thrilled we secured the win," Brevis remarked.

He also praised his young teammate Ayush Mhatre, calling him "special" and encouraging him to continue playing his natural game without feeling pressured.

"Mhatre is a unique talent; he’s young and plays with a lot of flair. My hope for him is to stay true to himself, enjoy the game, and play freely. There will be ups and downs in his career, but it’s fantastic to see how he approaches the game. He plays ball by ball, reacting and hitting where necessary," he added.

After being asked to bat first by KKR, CSK scored 192 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Notable performances came from Sanju Samson, who scored 48 runs off 32 balls, and Dewald Brevis, who contributed 41 runs off 29 balls. Kartik Tyagi was the standout bowler for KKR, taking 2 wickets for 35 runs.

During KKR's chase, they found themselves at 29 for 2 early on but managed to form a 50-run partnership between skipper Ajinkya Rahane (28 runs off 22 balls) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (27 runs off 19 balls). However, a pivotal spell from Noor Ahmed saw KKR slump to 90 for 6, ultimately finishing their innings at 160 for 7.

KKR remains winless this season, having lost four matches and one resulting in no result, placing them at the bottom of the table. Meanwhile, CSK has moved up to eighth place with four points.
